The UK Government recently announced that driver training can restart on Saturday 4 July 2020. But, just as it has had on many industries, COVID-19 has also had a huge impact on driver training. So how will driving lessons be handled in line with social distancing restrictions and what is the impact on those still unable to take their test right now?

Can I Take a Driving Test?

You cannot currently book a new driving test if you did not have a test booked before lockdown. Driving tests are being carried out as a priority for people who had their test cancelled because of coronavirus. You can apply for an emergency driving test if you are a keyworker.

As a business customer of the DVSA, we have been advised by the DVSA that we will be able to get earlier test than the general public and/or small driving schools so will be able to get earlier tests.

Can I Start Driving Tuition?

Driving Lessons – APass4U is currently accepting new learner drivers for driving lessons in a manual or automatic vehicle which will be arranged by our fully qualified driving instructors with you direct. Driving lessons (not tests) can start again from today (27/7) in Wales.

Intensive Courses – Intensive courses can be requested but due to the DVSA not allowing tests to be booked at this present time, we would not be able to allocate a date. 

Keeping Our Staff & Customers Safe

With no immunity or current vaccine available, there is still a potential risk for the virus to spread extensively, so the health and wellbeing of our staff and customers must be our primary consideration as we return to work.

To help you stay safe whilst driving, we have bought in some new measures:

  • Our learner vehicles are cleaned with antibacterial fluids after every driving lesson.
  • Hand sanitiser is available in every vehicle.
  • Before each lesson/day please have a discussion with your driving instructor to discuss whether masks and gloves are required.
  • If you are unwell in any way please contact your driving instructor and/or driving school to make them aware and your lesson will be rebooked for a different date.
  • Before and after your driving lesson the DVSA have suggested that you wash your hands to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.

We are aware that learner drivers do have different views and requirements and should you have a specific request please do not hesitate to ask.
